Foufounes Electriques (Techno-Grave) / 87 Ste-Catherine St. East > DAX (Saturn 6) / Ste-Catherine and Sanguinet > Dim. La Fac (Techno Rave) / Ste-Catherine and St-Hubert Bad news kidz, as I am sure most of you are aware, Foufounes, Dax and La Fac have all closed. Rumours abound. The official line from Fouf's is bankrupcy, but we all know it was near sell out 4 out of 7 days a week. The rumour is that it got nailed for serving minors ... one of which was a 15 year old nephew of Jean Dore. Neither Dax or Fac were doing well, which is unfortunate. The one time I went to Dax for Techno (a Sunday), it was the hardest hardcore I've heard anywhere in Montreal ... lots of good German stuff, and 'O Fortuna' was not to be heard anywhere (yes!). I even got a pair of spectral glasses at the door, cool. La Fac, was fun, but IMHO they were not up on the latest trends in music and the crowd was not very interesting. La Brique is going to open as a "rave" bar, but I doubt they will be able to pull it off. [Ed. Note: Thanks for the info Peter. I wasn't sure about the status of Dax and la Fac, and i didn't go to Fouf' this year... So what was starting to be active as a scene in clubs is now almost dead] Anyone else go to DNA on Saturday night? It was great .. very communal, not a ridiculous, profit making, business oriented thing. The music was great, the crowd was into it and I was wasted. What more could you ask? We need many, many more 200-300 people raves. Unfortunately, I will *NOT* be holding a rave next week. I am holding a general meeting of some interested people who want to organize and help out at raves. The purpose of this meeting is to get everyone informed of each other and get the ball rolling. I have thrown a couple of warehouse parties which have been in the "alternative" music vein, but not at all ravey (BTW, I hate that word). Now I want to meet with people, get DJ's, equipment, lighting, and organized. My attitude is that nobody will do it for us, so let's do it ourselves ... and keep the money-grubbing businessmen out: $25 on new years to get into Crisco, it was good, but give me a fucking break. Not only that, but the people who had already bought their tix had to wait in line, while the people who didn't went ahead 'cause you already gave them your cash. So no rave next week, but it is for a greater good, to hold many in the future. I dream that the summer of '93 is Montreal's Summer-of-Love(tm). Finally if there are any musicians/technologists in the crowd please send me e-mail. I need a break from my regular band and want to work on some trance and/or garage stuff. The equipment I have includes: roland R5 drum machine, Roland TR-606 (analog) drum machine, mini-Moog (analog), SCE Pro-1 (analog), Moog Satellite (analog), midi-to-cv convertor, Ensoniq ESQ-1, Ensoniq Mirage sampler, reverb, delay, Mackie 12-channel mixing board, '386 PC with sequencer(s), small PA, etc. pEacE, -- Peter A.
