Box 1381, Kingston, Ontario, K7L 5C6] [6135461848/6135488734 Fax] [3kjm4@qucdn.queensu.ca] J'ai recu cet album au debut de l'annee, mais avec tout les problemes que j'ai eu, ce n'est qu'aujourd'hui que je peux vous en parler. Ripcore est un album qui donne un vaste apercu des variations de style a l'interieur de la musique techno, et Karl Mohr semble les maitriser assez bien. On y retrouve bon nombre d'echantillons savamment choisis, quelques extraits du 2ieme mouvement des Quatres Saisons de Vivaldi, ainsi qu'une performance soprano de Ariane Reid et de violon de Christopher Ford sur "Four Seasons Sketches" et une instrumentation vraiment complete. Avec "Soleyma Sunshine" on s'offre meme une incursion dans l'acid jazz. Dans "Time", une chanson tres repetitive, on se sent hypnotise par des percussions tres relax, dans un style ambient house. Vous y entendrez entre autre Prince... I received this album at the beginning of the year, but with all the problems that i've had, i've not been able to send out the review before. Ripcore is an album that gives a general view of several variations of techno music, and Karl Mohr seems to master them fairly well. On the album, a good array of sampling, a soprano performance by Ariane Reid and violin by Christopher Ford ( on "Four Seasons Sketches" ) and a quite complete instrumentation. There is even an incursion into acid jazz with "Soleyma Sunshine". The most repetitive track, "Time", will hypnotise you with soft percussions, in an ambient house style (listen for Prince, too :P). Le deuxieme cote est un peu plus agressif,et le style penche plus dans le hard trance (le premier cote etant plus du bord du ambient house). "Over the etherscape" et "maybe not" ont des inspirations industrielles, alors que "The moon is blue" semble ideal pour un full moon rave. "Elevation" et surtout "Glamour Magazine" devraient se retrouver sur un 12". J'ecoutais "Glamour Magazine" avec 2 DJ de clubs, et en coeur ils ont dit: "hot". Vous aimez les congas et les toms? "The sky is on fire" vous conviendra surement avec sa saveur world beat. L'album se termine par "Napoleon's Complex", un remix hardcore de la piece "Napoleon's Therapy", une piece ambient house qui se retrouve sur le premier cote. The second side is a bit more agressive,and the style is more hard trance (side one is more of the ambient house variety). Instinct va sortir un bon nombre d'importations Fax, au prix domestique, et en quantite plus importante. Il serait meme question d'un coffret de 8 CD de la musique ambient de Pete Namlock. The record label FAX has struck an agreement with INSTINCT RECORDS quite recently. Instinct will put out a good number of Fax imports, at domestic prices, and in more important quantities.
